Shade Sail Hyperbolic Tensile Membrane Form
01. PRODUCT DEFINITION

Shade Sail Hyperbolic Tensile Membrane Form

A landmark collection of three-point, four-point and five-point hyperbolic tensile shade sail membranes — custom designed and engineered for a premium Maldivian resort, spanning across swimming pool surrounds, landscape zones and open recreational areas.

Executed in HDPE mesh membrane, the system delivers breathable shading performance with wind permeability suited to oceanic conditions. A striking blue and ivory palette reflects the natural character of the Maldivian seascape and landscape.

HDPE Mesh Membrane

Breathable, high-performance fabric selected for shade efficiency, airflow and durability in coastal environments.

SS 316 Hardware

Turnbuckles, D-shackles, clamping brackets and tensile hardware specified in SS 316 grade for oceanic corrosion resistance.

Natural Anchoring

Mature coconut trees, timber members and wooden beams serve as primary anchoring supports with custom bracket detailing.

Large Span Performance

Spans of 10m, 15m and up to 18–20m are achieved with virtually no visible conventional structural members.

What the eye sees is pure membrane, cable and nature — nothing more.

Sails over paradise — where ocean winds, coconut trees and tensile engineering come together in one of the world's most beautiful and demanding settings.

Sails Over Paradise
Maldives Shade Sail Installation
APPLICATION & UTILITY

Resort Shading Designed Around Nature & Experience

Designed as a comprehensive shading solution for a luxury Maldivian resort, this installation spans swimming pool surrounds, open landscape zones and recreational spaces — delivering generous, comfortable shade across spans of up to 18 to 20 meters without interrupting the resort's spatial flow or visual identity.

The dual colour palette is functional as much as it is aesthetic — blue shade sails frame the swimming pool and oceanic views, while ivory shade sails complement the surrounding landscape belt, creating a canopy composition that feels curated, natural and seamlessly integrated into the environment.

Large-Span Resort Coverage

Comfortable shading across expansive recreational zones while preserving openness and circulation.

Blue & Ivory Sail Composition

Colour palette strategically designed to respond to ocean views, pools and surrounding greenery.

Breathable HDPE Mesh

Allows natural airflow beneath the membrane — essential for tropical comfort in oceanic climates.

Uncompromised Infinity Views

Resort architecture, guest experience and visual openness remain fully uninterrupted throughout.

Video presentations and drone bird's-eye-view footage are available — capturing the scale, geometry and beauty of the installation from above.

MECANCO Maldives Tensile Project
OUR EDGE

Engineering Beyond Convention

Every project tests an engineering team differently. The Maldives tested MECANCO in every dimension simultaneously — oceanic wind loads, extreme corrosion conditions, environmental sensitivity, remote site logistics and a client brief demanding large-span shading with virtually no visible structural intervention.

Our response was not to import a standard solution into an extraordinary setting — it was to engineer an entirely new one from the ground up.

Natural Anchoring Innovation

Full-grown coconut trees and existing timber members became the primary structural anchoring system.

Custom Bracket Engineering

Every bracket was individually designed with coordinate-mapped positioning and growth accommodation.

Oceanic Performance

Engineered for extreme corrosion resistance, wind exposure and tropical environmental demands.

Invisible Structure Philosophy

Large spans achieved with virtually no visible conventional structural intervention.

This is MECANCO's first project beyond Indian borders — a landmark installation floating above paradise as if it always belonged there.
